Therapeutic Ultrasound units are often used in physiotherapy. Ultrasound therapy is applied using a transducer or applicator (Soundheads) that is in direct contact with the patients skin. Gel (Ultrasound Gel) is used on all surfaces of the head to reduce friction and assist transmission of the ultrasonic waves. Therapeutic ultrasound frequency used is 1 to 3 MHz. The higher the frequency the lower the penetration in the soft tissue.
Different sounhead sizes are available: 2, 5 and 10 cm2. The size of the soundhead will depend on the surface that needs to be treated.
